New Delhi: The Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) celebrated its 15th Foundation Day with a Stakeholders’ Meet, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, financial institutions and senior officials from the renewable energy sector to discuss emerging opportunities and challenges in India’s clean energy transition.
Addressing the gathering as the Chief Guest, Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy and Power, said SECI’s 15-year journey reflects India’s growing leadership in the global renewable energy transition.
He said SECI has consistently contributed to the country’s clean energy vision and expressed confidence that the corporation will continue to play a central role in achieving India’s renewable energy goals.
SECI Completes 15 Years of Renewable Energy Journey
SECI was incorporated on September 20, 2011, as the country’s dedicated implementing agency for the National Solar Mission.
Over the past 15 years, the organisation has expanded its role beyond solar energy and emerged as a key Central Public Sector Enterprise focused on the broader renewable energy ecosystem.
SECI is a Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and has a mandate covering various segments of the renewable energy sector.
Key achievements highlighted during the Foundation Day included:
- More than 41 GW of renewable energy generation capacity commissioned through third-party developers.
- Power Sale Agreements (PSAs) exceeding 67 GW signed with various DISCOMs and consumers.
- Around ₹3.6 lakh crore in cumulative market investments enabled.
- Growing focus on energy storage and green hydrogen.
- Expansion of SECI’s own project portfolio.

Shripad Yesso Naik Highlights SECI’s Role in Clean Energy Vision
Speaking at the Foundation Day celebration, Shripad Yesso Naik said SECI’s journey over the past 15 years reflects the country’s increasing contribution to the global renewable energy transition.
He highlighted SECI’s contribution towards implementing India’s clean energy vision and expressed confidence in its continued role in the sector.
The event was attended by several senior officials and industry representatives, including:

Akash Tripathi, Managing Director, SECI, said the organisation remains committed to creating new opportunities in the renewable energy sector while working closely with stakeholders and responding to evolving market requirements.
He said SECI’s 15-year journey represents the organisation’s commitment as well as the collective efforts of stakeholders towards building a sustainable energy ecosystem.
Tripathi also acknowledged the contribution and support of SECI’s stakeholders in the organisation’s growth and development.
Stakeholders’ Meet Focuses on Emerging Energy Opportunities
The Stakeholders’ Meet featured two thematic sessions focused on key developments shaping India’s energy transition.
The sessions were:
- “Reimagining Industry through Green Molecules”
- “The Changing Energy Landscape: Distributed Renewables and New Energy Markets”
The sessions brought together policymakers, industry leaders and representatives of financial institutions to discuss emerging opportunities, challenges and market developments in the renewable energy sector.
Green Hydrogen and Green Molecules Take Centre Stage
The first thematic session, “Reimagining Industry through Green Molecules,” focused on the role of green hydrogen and its derivatives in reducing emissions from hard-to-abate sectors.
Discussions covered opportunities related to:
- Domestic production of green hydrogen and its derivatives
- Emerging industrial applications
- Decarbonisation of hard-to-abate sectors
- Policy support required for market development
- Infrastructure and technology requirements
- Financing mechanisms for scaling green molecule markets
The session also examined how green molecules could create new opportunities for industrial growth while supporting the country’s broader decarbonisation objectives.

Distributed Renewables and New Energy Markets Discussed
The second session, “The Changing Energy Landscape: Distributed Renewables and New Energy Markets,” focused on the changing role of distributed renewable energy in India.
Participants discussed the growing involvement of consumers and the integration of distributed energy resources into the wider power system.
Key areas included:
- Greater consumer participation in renewable energy
- Integration of distributed energy resources
- Emerging renewable energy market mechanisms
- Policy and regulatory requirements
- Supporting the expansion of distributed renewable energy
The discussions highlighted the need for suitable policy and regulatory frameworks to enable effective integration of distributed renewable energy and facilitate the growth of new energy markets.

While SECI was initially established to support the implementation of the National Solar Mission, its role has expanded significantly over the years.
The organisation is now active across a wider range of renewable energy and emerging clean energy segments.
