New Delhi: South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) has reinforced its commitment to inclusive and sustainable development by signing multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) worth ₹11.87 crore under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. The initiatives are aimed at strengthening public healthcare infrastructure, upgrading early childhood development facilities, and improving access to safe drinking water in project-affected areas of Chhattisgarh.
The MoUs were signed at SECL Headquarters under the guidance of Director (Human Resources) Biranchi Das. The agreements were executed on behalf of SECL by C. M. Verma, General Manager (CSR), in the presence of senior officials from SECL and representatives of partner organisations.
Enhancing Healthcare Infrastructure with Advanced Technology
As part of its healthcare-focused CSR interventions, SECL has undertaken major projects to improve infection control, indoor air quality, and patient safety in government hospitals through the installation of advanced semiconductor-based air sterilisation systems.
At the Late Bisahu Das Mahant Memorial Government Medical College and Hospital, Korba, SECL has sanctioned ₹2.81 crore for installing 62 air steriliser units. These units will be deployed in critical and high-risk areas such as operation theatres, ICUs, NICUs, PICUs, labour rooms, TB wards, burn wards, and other sensitive patient-care zones, ensuring a safer environment for patients and healthcare professionals.
Similarly, at the Kumar Sahab Late Dilip Singh Judev Government Super Specialty Hospital, Bilaspur, SECL will invest ₹3.49 crore to install 77 air steriliser units across operation theatres, ICUs, MICUs, dialysis units, and other enclosed treatment areas. The initiative is expected to significantly enhance hygiene standards and reduce the risk of hospital-acquired infections.
Upgrading Anganwadi Centres for Early Childhood Development
Focusing on early childhood care and education, SECL has signed an MoU with Srishti Seva Samiti, Udaipur (Rajasthan) for the development of 200 Model Anganwadi Centres in Bilaspur district at a cost of ₹4.72 crore.
The project aims to modernise Anganwadi infrastructure by improving sanitation facilities, providing essential furniture, and creating safe, child-friendly learning environments. These upgrades are expected to strengthen the delivery of nutrition, education, and healthcare services for young children and support holistic early childhood development.
Improving Access to Safe Drinking Water in Mining-Affected Areas
Addressing public health and community welfare in mining-impacted regions, SECL has also partnered with CIPET, Raipur, to implement a safe drinking water initiative in villages affected by operations in the Gevra area.
Under this project, 3,989 household water filters along with 30-litre water treatment kits will be distributed at a CSR cost of ₹84.73 lakh. The initiative aims to provide reliable access to clean drinking water, reduce waterborne diseases, and improve overall health outcomes in the region.
Commitment to Community Welfare
All the MoUs were formally executed by General Manager (CSR) C. M. Verma, with senior CSR officials and representatives of implementing agencies present during the signing. Through these targeted interventions, SECL continues to play a proactive role in supporting healthcare systems, nurturing early childhood development, and improving quality of life in communities across Chhattisgarh.
