Mr. Shailendra Nath Gupta, a 1990-batch Indian Defence Estates Service officer, took charge as the Director General of Defence Estates on May 31, 2025. He brings with him a wealth of experience in Cantonment administration and Defence land management, having held key positions such as CEO of various Cantonment Boards, Defence Estate Officer of multiple circles, and Principal Director of Defence Estates in the Eastern Command.
The Directorate General of Defence Estates oversees the administration and maintenance of approximately 18 lakh acres of defence land across India. Operating through six commands, 38 Defence Estates Circles, and 61 Cantonment Boards, the organisation plays a critical role in managing defence-related real estate assets across the country.
