The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has recently mandated senior IPS officer Mr. Amitabh Gupta to take charge as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). Officer Gupta is a 1992-batch Maharashtra cadre IPS officer.
The competent authority has approved the appointment of Officer Gupta to the post on a deputation basis from the date of joining the post and up to 30th June 2029, which is the date of his superannuation or till further orders, whichever ends earlier.
Prior to his posting in the ITBP, IPS Amitabh Gupta was serving as the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) of Special Operations in Maharashtra. Although IPS Gupta holds the rank of ADGP in the state, he was not empanelled as ADGP in the central government, thus he had to be appointed as an IG in ITBP.
