In a recent development, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has officially appointed Senior IPS officer Amrit Mohan Prasad as the new Director General of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). The official order was released on Friday.
Mr Prasad, a 1989-batch Indian Police Service officer of the Odisha cadre, is currently serving as the Special Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). His appointment to the top position in the SSB is set for a tenure extending until his retirement on August 31, 2025.
The SSB, which is tasked with guarding India’s frontiers with Nepal and Bhutan, saw a leadership change following the recent appointment of Daljit Singh Chaudhary as the Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF) on August 28.
