In a significant move for national security, the Indian government has appointed Senior IPS Officer B Srinivasan as the new Director General of the National Security Guard (NSG). The appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on Tuesday.

Srinivasan, a distinguished officer from the 1992 batch of the Indian Police Service (IPS) with the Bihar cadre, will assume the role with immediate effect. His tenure as the head of the elite counter-terrorism force is set to continue until August 31, 2027, which marks the date of his superannuation.

Earlier this month, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) had cut short the tenure of Nalin Prabhat, who was previously serving as the NSG Director General. Mr Prabhat has been reassigned as the Special Director General of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, with immediate effect. He is set to take over the role of the force’s chief after R R Swain retires on September 30.

Nalin Prabhat, known for his distinguished career, has earned multiple accolades, including three Police Gallantry Medals and the Parakram Padak. At 55 years old, Prabhat has a robust background in counter-insurgency, having previously led the Greyhounds, an elite anti-Naxal unit in Andhra Pradesh.

As B Srinivasan prepares to lead the NSG, his extensive experience and strategic insight will be pivotal in continuing the force’s mission to counter terrorism and ensure national security.

The National Security Guard, known for its expertise in counter-terrorism and hostage rescue operations, will be under Srinivasan’s leadership as he brings a wealth of experience and strategic acumen to the role.
