Shillong: The Government of Meghalaya has appointed Dr. Shakeel P. Ahammed (IAS: 1995: AM cadre) as the next Chief Secretary of the state. He will take over from the incumbent Donald Philip Wahlang (IAS: 1993: AM cadre), who is due to retire on September 30, 2025.
Experienced Bureaucrat to Succeed Wahlang
Dr. Ahammed, with service terms extending till November 2026, currently holds the position of Additional Chief Secretary for key departments including Home, Water Resources, and Corporate Social Responsibility. Alongside these responsibilities, he serves as Chairman of the Board of Revenue, Government of Meghalaya.
His appointment as Chief Secretary also includes the role of State Vigilance Commissioner, adding another critical responsibility to his portfolio.
