Shimla: SJVN Limited has taken a significant step in developing the 382 MW Sunni Dam Hydro Electric Project in Himachal Pradesh by signing a ₹837.43 crore contract with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) for the project’s crucial Electro-Mechanical (E&M) works. The project is slated for commissioning by July 2029.
Major Contract Signed for Electro-Mechanical Works
The contract agreement was formalized in the presence of Mr. Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director (Personnel), SJVN, and signed by Mr. Ravi Rajan, Executive Director (ECD), SJVN, and Mr. Ritu Raj, Sr. DGM, BHEL, with senior officials from both organizations in attendance.
The scope of the contract includes the complete Electro-Mechanical works for the 382 MW Sunni Dam Hydro Electric Project, complementing the civil and hydro-mechanical works already underway since January 2023.

Project Overview and Timeline
The Sunni Dam Hydro Electric Project is a run-of-the-river scheme with diurnal storage, located on the Satluj River in Shimla and Kullu districts. The dam-toe surface powerhouse is expected to generate approximately 1,381.77 million units of clean electricity annually, adding significant renewable energy capacity to India’s national grid.
The E&M works are scheduled to be completed in line with the overall project commissioning target of July 31, 2029.
