New Delhi: India’s indigenous defence manufacturer SMPP Limited has secured an additional order for 10,000 bulletproof jackets, strengthening the country’s push for domestic defence manufacturing and improved protection for security personnel. The new order increases the total supply contract to 50,000 bulletproof jackets for India’s Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).

The development comes as the company continues smooth execution of its earlier 40,000-unit bulletproof jackets ordered for paramilitary forces. The SMPP bulletproof jackets order highlights growing confidence in Indian-made ballistic protection equipment and aligns with the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative in defence production.

Details of  SMPP Bulletproof Jackets Order

Indian defence equipment manufacturer SMPP Limited has received a fresh order for around 10,000 bulletproof jackets from India’s paramilitary forces.

With this new contract, the total order value now stands at 50,000 jackets, including the earlier order of 40,000 units that is already being executed.

The order reflects the growing reliance of India’s security forces on indigenous ballistic protection systems developed and manufactured within the country.

According to the company, the additional procurement was approved after authorities reviewed the quality and timely delivery performance during the ongoing supply process.

Progress of the 40,000-Unit Paramilitary Jacket Contract

SMPP is currently executing the earlier contract to supply 40,000 bulletproof jackets to multiple Central Armed Police Forces.

These include major paramilitary organizations such as:

  • Border Security Force (BSF)
  • Central Industrial Security Force (CISF)
  • Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB)

So far, the company has delivered approximately 28,000 jackets, while the remaining units are expected to be supplied in the next financial year as per the agreed schedule.

The steady progress of deliveries played a key role in the forces awarding the additional 10,000-unit order.

Designed for High-Level Ballistic Protection

The bulletproof jackets manufactured by SMPP are designed and produced in India and meet stringent ballistic protection standards.

Key protection features include:

  • Capability to withstand armour-piercing ammunition
  • Protection against high-velocity rifle rounds
  • Lightweight construction for operational mobility
  • Enhanced safety during counter-insurgency and combat operations

Advanced ballistic technologies such as boron carbide ceramic armour plates are often used in modern protection systems to reduce weight while maintaining high protection levels.

These technologies help security personnel operate efficiently in demanding environments.

Supplying Protective Gear to Multiple Security Forces

SMPP has established itself as a major supplier of personal protection systems for India’s defence and internal security forces.

Apart from the paramilitary forces, the company also provides ballistic protection equipment to:

  • Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)
  • Indian Army
  • Other armed and security forces

Over the years, the company has delivered large quantities of ballistic jackets and helmets, strengthening the safety of soldiers deployed in high-risk operational areas.

Expanding Into Ammunition and Drone Systems

Beyond personal protection equipment, SMPP is expanding into new defence manufacturing sectors.

The company is working on:

  • Ammunition production for 155-mm artillery guns
  • Drone and drone-munition technologies
  • Advanced ballistic protection systems

These initiatives aim to strengthen India’s domestic defence industrial ecosystem and reduce dependence on imported military equipment.

Boost for India’s Defence Self-Reliance

The additional order for bulletproof jackets reflects the broader push toward self-reliant defence manufacturing in India.

The government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat policy encourages the procurement of locally manufactured defence equipment to:

  • Improve supply chain security
  • Strengthen domestic defence companies
  • Create advanced manufacturing capabilities

By delivering large-scale orders for protective gear, companies like SMPP are playing a key role in enhancing the safety and operational effectiveness of India’s security forces.
