The terrain’s unpredictability and sudden collapse triggered widespread panic among locals. Within 10 minutes of the incident, 150 personnel from the Indian Army mobilised and reached the site—an emergency response made possible due to the proximity of the Harshil base and the Army’s high-altitude readiness.
Rescue teams moved in swiftly, navigating difficult terrain to extract trapped individuals and ensure their safe evacuation. As of now, more than 20 civilians have been safely rescued and relocated to secure areas.
Timely Medical Aid Saves Lives

The injured were immediately transported to the Indian Army’s medical facility in Harshil, where they are receiving timely and professional medical care. The Army’s rapid deployment of paramedical teams ensured that no time was lost in administering first aid and stabilising critical cases.
Field medics and support teams remain stationed at the Army base, providing sustained care to the evacuated and closely monitoring recovery efforts.
Operations Continue Amidst Uncertainty
Even as evacuations progress, search and rescue operations are still underway. The Indian Army has deployed all available resources to trace and assist any remaining stranded individuals. Troops are conducting coordinated ground searches in the unstable terrain, aided by local administration and disaster response authorities.
Helplines and communications have also been activated to coordinate with nearby villages and ensure no one is left unaccounted for.
Army’s Unwavering Support to the Region

The Indian Army reaffirmed its commitment to stand by the people of Uttarkashi in this difficult time. The ongoing operation not only highlights the Army’s operational preparedness in high-altitude emergencies but also its unwavering dedication to humanitarian efforts under its guiding ethos of Nation First.
