Chennai: In a minor reshuffle of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) cadre, the Tamil Nadu government on Thursday transferred seven senior officials, appointing P Sri Venkata Priya as the new Secretary of the Tamil Nadu State Election Commission (TNSEC).
The changes were formalized through an official order issued by Chief Secretary N Muruganandam.
Changes at the TNSEC
P Sri Venkata Priya, who was serving as the Additional Secretary in the Home, Prohibition and Excise Department, will now take over as Secretary of the TNSEC. She replaces K Balasubramaniam, who has been transferred and posted as Government Additional Secretary to the Public and Rehabilitation Department.
This move marks a significant shift in the administrative leadership of the state’s election commission ahead of crucial local body governance activities.

Several other senior IAS officers have also been moved as part of the reshuffle–
- Sajjansingh R Chavan has been transferred and posted as Special Secretary, Planning and Development Department.
- Sharanya Ari will now serve as the Additional Director, Directorate of Social Welfare.
- Shweta Suman has been appointed as the Executive Officer, Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO).

- Banoth Mrugender Lal has been posted as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Cooperation, Food and Civil Supplies.
Administrative Continuity and Strategic Reassignments
While the reshuffle has been termed “minor,” it reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to maintain administrative momentum and realign bureaucratic responsibilities to ensure efficiency in key departments.
All officials are expected to assume their new roles with immediate effect, as per the government directive.
