Telangana CMO Reportedly Denies Japan Tour to Senior Education IAS Officer Over Frequent Foreign Visits

The Telangana CMO has reportedly denied permission to a senior Education Department IAS officer to join an official Japan study tour, with sources citing concerns over frequent foreign visits and the need to ensure smooth departmental administration.

Hyderabad: The Telangana Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) has reportedly declined permission for a senior IAS officer in the state’s Education Department to participate in an official study tour to Japan, with sources claiming the decision was taken to ensure continuity in the department’s day-to-day administration.

According to sources, the officer had sought approval to join an official delegation scheduled to visit Japan later this month. While the remaining members of the delegation reportedly received clearance, the CMO is said to have withheld approval for the senior bureaucrat.

Concerns Over Frequent Overseas Visits

Secretariat sources said the officer has participated in several international study tours since assuming charge in the Education Department and has represented Telangana in multiple overseas programmes.

According to officials familiar with the matter, the officer has become a regular participant in foreign study visits, both those sponsored by the government and those undertaken through external invitations.

Sources claimed that this was one of the key factors considered while reviewing the proposal for the Japan visit.

Telangana’s Education Reform Drive

The Telangana Government has been actively studying global education models as part of its efforts to modernise the state’s education system.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has repeatedly directed officials to examine best practices adopted by leading countries and explore reforms that can be implemented in Telangana.

In line with this initiative, official delegations have recently visited Finland, Switzerland and Germany to study their education systems. According to sources, the same IAS officer was part of both the Switzerland and Germany delegations.

Japan Proposal Reviewed by CMO

Sources said the Education Department recently submitted a proposal seeking approval for another official study visit to Japan, with the officer’s name included among the delegates.

After examining the proposal, the CMO reportedly noted that the officer had already participated in consecutive foreign visits.

According to sources, the Chief Minister subsequently directed officials to exclude the officer from the Japan delegation so that routine administrative work in the Education Department would not be affected.

The remaining members of the delegation, including several Vice Chancellors of universities, have reportedly received approval for the visit.

No Official Confirmation Yet

Neither the Telangana Government nor the Chief Minister’s Office has issued any official statement confirming or denying the reported decision.

The developments are based on information shared by official sources, and an official clarification is awaited.
