Dhanbad: Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), a Miniratna public sector coal company, has reported a net loss of ₹68.09 crore in the first quarter of financial year 2026-27 (Q1 FY27), compared with a net profit of ₹176.87 crore in the same quarter last year.
The company’s revenue from operations declined 3.6% year-on-year to ₹3,587.27 crore in Q1 FY27, compared with ₹3,719.59 crore in Q1 FY26, according to the latest financial results.
BCCL Q1 FY27 Financial Performance
BCCL’s key financial highlights for the quarter ended June 2026 are:
- Net Loss: ₹68.09 crore, against a profit of ₹176.87 crore in Q1 FY26
- Revenue from Operations: ₹3,587.27 crore, down from ₹3,719.59 crore a year ago
- Total Income: ₹3,723.24 crore, compared with ₹3,901.79 crore in Q1 FY26
- Profit Before Tax (PBT): Loss of ₹103.07 crore, against a profit of ₹247.40 crore in the previous year quarter
- Basic Earnings Per Share (EPS): Negative ₹0.15, compared with ₹0.38 in Q1 FY26

Coal Production Declines in Q1 FY27
BCCL witnessed a decline in coal production during the quarter. Production stood at 6.56 million metric tonnes (MMT) in Q1 FY27, compared with 9.04 MMT in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
Coal off-take also declined to 7.72 MMT from 8.98 MMT in Q1 FY26.

Expenses Rise Despite Lower Employee and Contract Costs
BCCL’s total expenses increased to ₹3,826.31 crore in Q1 FY27 from ₹3,654.39 crore in the same period last year.
The company reported changes across major expense categories:
- Employee Benefits: ₹1,553.80 Cr in Q1 FY27 vs ₹1,614.22 Cr in Q1 FY26
- Contractual Expenses: ₹917.57 Cr vs ₹1,061.69 Cr
- Other Expenses: ₹1,232.89 Cr vs ₹1,088.56 Cr
- Finance Costs: ₹48.33 Cr vs ₹26.21 Cr
While employee benefit expenses and contractual costs declined, higher other expenses and finance costs impacted overall profitability during the quarter.
BCCL Board Reviews Q1 FY27 Results
The company’s 444th Board Meeting was held on July 21-22, 2026, where the quarterly financial results were considered and approved.
The Audit Committee reviewed the results on July 21, 2026. The statutory auditors issued a limited review report with an unmodified conclusion.
BCCL also stated that there are no separate reportable segments as its operations are primarily related to coal mining and associated services.
