The Government has directed that she be relieved from her current responsibilities immediately to join her new assignment in New Delhi.
From Education Reforms to Rural Development
Dr. Alagu Varsini V S is presently serving as Secretary of the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS). Known for her innovative leadership in public education, she has played a pivotal role in transforming the academic ecosystem for marginalized communities in Telangana.

Pioneer of ‘Project Vigyan’

Despite encountering political scrutiny for her stance on involving students in hostel cleanliness activities, she defended her decision as a step toward instilling the dignity of labor and social responsibility.
A Natural Fit for Rural Transformation
Dr. Varsini’s appointment to the Department of Rural Development aligns with her track record of inclusive governance and grassroots empowerment. The department is tasked with implementing critical national programs like:

With her progressive outlook and field-level experience, she is expected to contribute significantly to these programs by bringing education-centric, equity-focused strategies into the rural development narrative.
What’s Next?
As Deputy Secretary, Dr. Varsini will play a key role in policy formulation, program evaluation, and inter-ministerial coordination. Her shift from educational reform to rural development is seen as a strategic move to leverage her insights into empowerment and systemic change.
Her leadership in this new role is anticipated to bridge policy with practice, especially in areas of skill development, rural education, women’s empowerment, and social infrastructure.
