Hyderabad: In a significant move to streamline policing and administration in the city, the Telangana government has reorganized the police commissionerates in Hyderabad, leading to a major reshuffle of Indian Police Service (IPS) officers. The reorganization also includes the formation of a new commissionerate and renaming of an existing one.
Malkajgiri Commissionerate: A New Identity for Rachakonda
The government has renamed the existing Rachakonda commissionerate as Malkajgiri commissionerate. Senior IPS officer Avinash Mohanty has been appointed as the new commissioner of Malkajgiri, following his transfer from Cyberabad. The Malkajgiri commissionerate will now comprise three zones: Malkajgiri, Uppal, and LB Nagar.
Future City Commissionerate: A New Chapter
In another key development, the government has carved out Maheshwaram zone and surrounding areas from Rachakonda to form the newly established Future City commissionerate. Sudheer Babu has been appointed as the first commissioner of this new jurisdiction, marking a fresh beginning in managing law and order in the region.
Cyberabad Commissionerate: New Leadership and Zones
The Cyberabad commissionerate has seen a reshuffle in leadership, with M Ramesh replacing Avinash Mohanty as its commissioner. Post-reorganization, Cyberabad has been structured into three zones: Kukatpally, Qutubullapur, and Serlingampalli, reflecting the state government’s focus on streamlining police administration across key urban areas.
Yadadri-Bhongir Zone Elevated to District
As part of the reorganization, the Yadadri-Bhongir Zone of Rachakonda has been upgraded to a full-fledged district. Akshansh Yadav, who was the DCP of the zone, has now been appointed as the Superintendent of Police of the new district. This move aims to enhance administrative efficiency and strengthen policing in the region.
Tri-Commissionerate Restructuring
The government has also undertaken a broader reorganization of the three commissionerates—Cyberabad, Rachakonda (now Malkajgiri), and Future City—by reducing them to three zones each. This reorganization is expected to improve operational efficiency, law enforcement response, and governance across Hyderabad and surrounding areas.
