New Delhi: THDC India Limited (THDCIL) has successfully synchronized the third unit of India’s first Variable Speed Pumped Storage Plant (PSP) at Tehri with the national grid. The 250 MW unit of the 4×250 MW Tehri PSP was synchronized on September 13, 2025, at 15:22 hrs, with all operating parameters confirmed satisfactory.
Strengthening Renewable Integration
The milestone marks a significant advancement in renewable energy integration, grid stability, and sustainable energy infrastructure. Once fully operational, the Tehri Hydro Power Complex will reach a total installed capacity of 2,400 MW. This includes the 1,000 MW Tehri Hydro Power Plant (HPP), 400 MW Koteshwar Hydro Electric Project (HEP), and 1,000 MW from the Variable Speed PSP.
Leadership Commends Achievement
Congratulating the project team, R.K. Vishnoi, CMD, THDCIL, highlighted the synchronization as a demonstration of engineering excellence. He added that the development sets the stage for commissioning the remaining two units of the PSP.
Sipan Kumar Garg, Director (Finance), THDCIL, emphasized the project’s role in boosting operational flexibility and grid stability. He noted that the milestone underscores THDCIL’s expertise in advanced hydropower and pumped storage technology.
L.P. Joshi, Executive Director (Tehri Complex), THDCIL, credited the PSP team, consortium partners GEPIL and HCC, and other stakeholders for their efforts. He stressed that the next focus will be achieving commercial operations at the earliest.
