The Tripura Government has initiated the process to appoint a new Director General of Police (DGP) as the incumbent Mr. Amitabh Ranjan (1994-batch IPS officer) is set to retire soon. The state government informed the Supreme Court that Mr. Ranjan assumed charge on July 28, 2022, and is scheduled to demit office on May 31, 2025.
During a hearing on Tuesday, a bench comprising Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar was reviewing a PIL filed by an NGO regarding DGP appointments. The state government’s counsel presented a letter in a sealed cover to the bench, confirming that the selection process for the new DGP began on March 7, 2025.
The government emphasized that it is adhering to the Supreme Court‘s directives on DGP appointments, ensuring compliance with past verdicts and guidelines.
