BEML Limited announced the addition of two seasoned professionals to its board on Wednesday. Mr. Rajeev Kumar Gupta has been appointed as Director (Rail & Metro), while Mr. Sanjay Som takes on the role of Director (Mining & Construction) for the defence public sector undertaking.
Mr. Gupta, an Electronics Engineering graduate from BIT Sindri, brings over 35 years of experience in the public sector. His distinguished career includes key leadership positions at SAIL and BHEL, where he developed extensive expertise in manufacturing, marketing, project execution, IT, strategic management, corporate communication, and international business. As Executive Director (Corporate Strategy & Communications) at BHEL, he spearheaded strategic initiatives, strengthened stakeholder relationships, and modernized communication efforts to enhance BHEL’s visibility. Notably, he was instrumental in securing the Vande Bharat order and advancing high-speed train development during his time as General Manager of BHEL’s Transportation Business. His two decades of international business experience significantly expanded BHEL’s footprint in Africa, Europe, and South Asia, bolstering its export growth strategies.
Mr. Som, a Mechanical Engineer from NIT Raipur, also boasts over 35 years of experience in the heavy engineering and manufacturing industries. His career spans both public and private sectors, where he has driven innovation and transformative growth. He played a critical role in developing the Vande Bharat Sleeper Coach for Indian Railways, solidifying his reputation for excellence and forward-thinking.
Before his current appointment, Som led BEML’s Bangalore Complex, managing operations in the Rail & Metro Manufacturing Division. Over his 17-year tenure at BEML, he has made significant contributions across the company’s core areas—Mining & Construction, Defence & Aerospace, and Rail & Metro. His previous experience includes roles at major public companies such as Simplex Engineering and Grasim Industries, where he specialized in manufacturing for railways, steel plants, and heavy machinery.
