Dehradun: On the occasion of World Disability Day, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami honored 89 skilled employees, sportspersons, and self-employed individuals from the “Divyang” (especially abled) community. The ceremony, held at Wedding Point in Dehradun, also recognized their employers for their support and contributions.

During the event, CM Dhami made several significant announcements to further assist the specially-abled community. He revealed plans to organize special camps in each district by the next World Disability Day to provide free equipment to disabled individuals based on their specific needs. Additionally, Dhami promised to arrange free online IAS coaching for disabled students in the state, aiming to provide equal opportunities for their education and advancement.

Positive Changes for Divyangjans, says CM Dhami

Congratulating the awardees, CM Dhami emphasized that the honor would not only bring positive changes to their lives but also alter societal perceptions about them. “The honor given to Divyang heroes will inspire a shift in society’s thinking and attitude,” he said, commending the courage and determination of the awardees who overcame physical challenges to achieve success.

“Those who try never lose,” he added, quoting a motivational saying. Dhami highlighted that Divyang individuals are proving their capabilities in various fields, from government offices to sports. “Lahron ke dar Kar Nauka Par Nahin Hoti, Koshish Karne Walon Ki Haar Nahin Hoti,” (Those who are afraid of the waves never sail the boat, those who try never fail), he remarked, encouraging the specially-abled community.

Disability Rights Act 2016 Brings Positive Changes

The Chief Minister also acknowledged the importance of the ‘Disability Rights Act 2016,’ introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to Dhami, this landmark legislation has made a significant difference in the lives of specially-abled individuals, improving accessibility and inclusion.

State Government Enhances Facilities for Divyangjans

Furthermore, CM Dhami outlined the state government’s efforts to improve facilities for the specially-abled at every level. He highlighted the importance of accessible public infrastructure, noting that special care is taken in the construction of public buildings, such as hospitals and bus stands, to ensure ease of access for Divyang individuals.

The Chief Minister’s initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to empowering the specially-abled community and fostering an inclusive environment in Uttarakhand.
