Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has made a massive push for infrastructure development in the UP Budget 2026–27, allocating nearly ₹66,000 crore for roads, bridges, expressways and urban expansion projects.
Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna announced the provisions, highlighting the government’s focus on improving connectivity and boosting economic growth across the state.
₹34,468 Crore for Roads and Bridges
A total of ₹34,468 crore has been proposed for the construction, widening, strengthening and maintenance of roads and bridges across Uttar Pradesh.
Key allocations include:
- ₹4,808 crore for bridge construction
- ₹1,700 crore for railway overbridges (ROBs) and underpasses
- ₹3,700 crore for widening and strengthening state and district roads
- ₹3,000 crore for road maintenance under the State Road Fund
- ₹3,000 crore for new road construction and widening
North-South Corridor and Industrial Connectivity
To enhance long-distance connectivity, the government has proposed:
- ₹400 crore for development and strengthening of the North-South Corridor
- ₹1,000 crore for widening and improving roads connected to industrial and logistics parks
These investments aim to facilitate faster transportation of goods and strengthen industrial growth in the state.
Urban Infrastructure: Ring Roads, Flyovers and Bypasses
For smoother urban mobility, the budget includes:
- ₹1,500 crore for construction of bypasses, ring roads and flyovers in cities
The government stated that these projects will reduce congestion and improve travel efficiency in major urban centers.
Housing and Urban Development Projects
The budget also makes significant provisions for urban expansion and housing:
- ₹7,705 crore for housing and urban planning
- ₹3,500 crore under the Chief Minister Urban Expansion/New City Promotion Scheme
Under this scheme:
- New residential schemes have been launched in Meerut (after 35 years)
- New housing projects in Agra (after 33 years)
- New housing plan in Lucknow (after 22 years)
- First-ever industrial scheme in Bulandshahr
Additionally, ₹800 crore has been allocated for infrastructure works under development authorities across the state, and ₹750 crore for new infrastructure facilities in Meerut, Mathura-Vrindavan and Kanpur.
Regional Development Authorities and New Initiatives
The government has formed the Kashi-Vindhya Regional Development Authority to ensure integrated development of districts including Jaunpur, Chandauli, Ghazipur, Mirzapur, Bhadohi and Sonbhadra.
The formation of the Prayagraj-Chitrakoot Regional Development Authority is also underway.
A new City Economic Region scheme has been introduced with an allocation of ₹100 crore, while ₹100 crore has been earmarked for the holistic development of Ayodhya.
Rapid Rail and National Inspiration Site
Under the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat Train has already begun operations.
The budget also allocates ₹50 crore as a corpus fund for management, security and maintenance of the Rashtriya Prerna Sthal in Lucknow, inaugurated by the Prime Minister on December 25.
Infrastructure Push to Boost Growth
With a record allocation of ₹66,000 crore for infrastructure, the Yogi government aims to strengthen connectivity, improve urban planning, and accelerate industrial and economic growth across Uttar Pradesh.
