Lucknow: — In a unique gesture to mark the beginning of Sanskrit Language Week, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath shared a video message delivered entirely in Sanskrit, extending greetings to the people of the state and urging a renewed commitment to preserving and practicing the ancient language.
In the message, CM Yogi highlighted Sanskrit as the foundation of Indian knowledge and cultural traditions, and emphasized the need to bring the language back into everyday usage, especially in schools and homes.
“Sanskrit is not just a language but the soul of Indian civilization. This week is an opportunity not only to celebrate but to take concrete steps toward its revival,” Yogi said in the video.

Social Media Message: Sanskrit as the Soul of Bharat
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to post in Sanskrit and Hindi, describing the language as the “voice of the sages” and the “eternal source of Sanatan knowledge.”
Calling it the “expression of India’s soul and global intellectual foundation,” he encouraged citizens to take a pledge to promote, protect, and use Sanskrit in their daily lives.
A Broader Cultural Movement
CM Yogi’s video message is not an isolated event — it forms part of a larger, ongoing government effort in Uttar Pradesh to bring Sanskrit into the mainstream:
- Over ₹5.8 crore in scholarships distributed to nearly 70,000 Sanskrit students earlier this year.
- Recognition granted to 73 new Sanskrit colleges across the state.
- Launch of vocational diploma programs under the Sanskrit Education Council.
- Government press releases and official communication being issued in Sanskrit since 2020.
- Promotion of ‘Shastrarth’ (traditional debates) in Sanskrit institutions to foster intellectual engagement.
These measures indicate a clear policy direction toward making Sanskrit a living language rather than a ceremonial one.
Why Sanskrit Week Matters
Observed annually across India, Sanskrit Week includes literary programs, awareness campaigns, and public events that encourage people—especially students—to explore Sanskrit texts, literature, and conversational use.
This year’s message from CM Yogi aligns with that spirit, transforming celebration into a call for action.
