Lucknow: Ahead of the festive season, Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna, a 1991-batch IPS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, has directed police units across the state to strengthen security arrangements, intensify market patrolling, improve traffic management and ensure strict inspections of firecracker shops. The directions aim to ensure peaceful and incident-free celebrations while prioritising public safety and convenience.
The instructions were issued during a statewide review meeting attended by zonal Additional Directors General of Police (ADGs), police commissioners, range Inspectors General (IGs) and Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), along with district Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs).

The move is aimed at strengthening the police presence on the ground and improving public confidence during the festive season.
Traffic Management and Firecracker Shop Inspections
With markets expected to witness a significant increase in footfall and vehicle movement, the DGP ordered a reorganisation of traffic deployment across districts to prevent congestion and ensure smooth movement.
He also directed officials to ensure that temporary firecracker shops operate only in designated open spaces, away from densely crowded markets.
The DGP stressed that firecracker shop owners must have valid licences and maintain all mandatory safety arrangements, including:
- Adequate water supply.
- Sand for emergency use.
- Properly maintained fire extinguishers.
Officials have been instructed to conduct strict inspections to ensure compliance with safety requirements.
Special Security Arrangements at Railway and Bus Stations
The UP Police has also been directed to strengthen security at bus stations, railway stations and other crowded public places.
Special attention will be given during Bhai Dooj, when a large number of women are expected to travel. The arrangements are aimed at ensuring their safety and providing a secure and convenient travel experience.

Separately, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash directed officers to intensify action against organised criminal networks.
He instructed police officials to analyse the geographical spread and inter-district connections of criminal gangs, identify illegal arms suppliers and trace drug trafficking channels.
The ADG also emphasised coordination with the Special Task Force (STF) and police units in other districts to dismantle organised criminal networks through joint operations.
The directions underline the Uttar Pradesh Police’s focus on strengthening law and order, preventing criminal activities and ensuring public safety across the state during the festive season.
