Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh DGP Rajeev Krishna (IPS: 1991: UP) has urged 912 newly recruited police personnel to approach their new responsibilities with honesty, discipline and dedication.
Krishna addressed the recruits at an appointment-letter distribution ceremony at Lok Bhawan, Lucknow, where the candidates were inducted into the Uttar Pradesh Police’s ministerial and confidential cadres.
912 Personnel Selected for Three Police Posts
The recruits have been selected through the Clerical Cadre Direct Recruitment-2023 for three categories of posts:
- Sub-Inspector (Confidential)
- Assistant Sub-Inspector (Clerical)
- Assistant Sub-Inspector (Accounts)

The batch includes 173 women.
Krishna told the recruits, “Today you have been selected; from tomorrow, your responsibility begins.” He emphasised that joining the police service marks the beginning of a public responsibility rather than merely securing government employment.
DGP Lays Out Responsibilities of New Recruits
The DGP highlighted the different responsibilities associated with the three cadres.
Their roles will include:
- Maintaining confidentiality and reliability in the confidential branch
- Ensuring accurate and timely upkeep of official records
- Maintaining financial discipline, transparency and accountability in accounts-related work
He urged the recruits to discharge their duties with honesty, discipline and dedication.
Basic Training to Begin on October 6
The newly recruited personnel will begin their basic training on October 6, 2026.
The training programme will consist of:
- Six months of institutional training
- Three months of practical training
The programme will cover functional skills, subject knowledge and behavioural aspects required for their respective roles. Training will be conducted at police training institutions in Moradabad, Sitapur, Meerut and Jalaun.
UP Police Moves Towards ‘SMART’ Working
Krishna also highlighted the use of technology and modern resources in the police department, referring to the move towards “SMART Police, SMART Office and SMART Office Assistant.”
He said direct recruitment is currently underway for around 35,000 police posts, while promotion proceedings are underway for another 9,457 posts.
Police Residential Infrastructure Expanded
The DGP also outlined the expansion of residential facilities for police personnel.
Since 2017, the state has constructed residential infrastructure covering:
- 74 police stations
- 24 transit hostels
- 60 men’s hostels
- 62 women’s hostels
The developments were highlighted as part of efforts to expand facilities for police personnel.
About Rajeev Krishna
Rajeev Krishna is a 1991-batch IPS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre and currently serves as the Director General of Police (DGP), Uttar Pradesh. He holds a B.E. in Electronics and Communication and joined the IPS in September 1991.
Before becoming full-time DGP in May 2026, Krishna served as DG Vigilance and headed the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board. He also held several senior assignments, including ADG-level posts in Lucknow and Agra and a deputation with the BSF.
He was given charge of the police recruitment board following the 2024 constable recruitment paper-leak controversy and oversaw the subsequent examination and recruitment of 60,244 constables.
