The Uttar Pradesh government has ordered a re-investigation into the clean chit given to Circle Officer Sambhal, Mr. Anuj Chaudhary, following allegations of continuous violation of service norms.
The order follows a complaint filed by Mr. Amitabh Thakur, a retired IPS officer of 1992 batch and national president of Azad Adhikar Sena, who has been directed to submit evidence by May 5.

Mr. Thakur had levelled serious allegations against Mr. Chaudhary, accusing him of repeated violations of service and uniform codes, making unauthorised statements, engaging in policing with communal overtones, and creating social tension by operating outside established service rules. He further claimed that Mr. Chaudhary’s conduct generated a sense of insecurity among a particular community.
Earlier, the inquiry conducted by Additional Superintendent of Police Sambhal had found that festivals such as Juma-tul-Vida, Holi, and Eid passed peacefully in the region. The investigation report stated that there was no corroborative evidence to support the remaining allegations, based on which the complaint was dismissed.
However, Mr. Thakur later submitted a letter to the Director General of Police, asserting that as per directives issued by the Chief Secretary, it is mandatory to record the complainant’s statement during public hearings. He pointed out that while statements from Mr. Chaudhary and others were recorded, he was not given the opportunity to present his viewpoint or submit evidence — a lapse he termed as highly objectionable.
In light of the state government’s new directive, ASP Mr. Shreesh Chandra has instructed Mr. Thakur to provide all relevant statements and evidence related to his allegations. Although initially given three days, Mr. Thakur has now been asked to furnish the material by May 5. Mr. Chandra confirmed that any evidence submitted will be duly incorporated into the ongoing inquiry.
