UP Government Promotes 50 IPS Officers: Tarun Gaba (Lucknow) & Praveen Kumar (Ayodhya) Elevated to ADG

Senior, Mid-Career, and Junior Officers from 2001, 2008, 2012, and 2013 Batches Get Key Promotions Across UP Police

Lucknow: In a significant move on the eve of the New Year, the government has promoted 50 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, recognizing their service and contributions to law enforcement across the state. These promotions span multiple batches and ranks, reflecting both seniority and merit.

Senior Officers Elevated from IG to ADG

Among the officers promoted, three IPS officers of the 2001 batch have been elevated from the rank of Inspector General (IG) to Additional Director General (ADG). The officers include:

  • Tarun Gaba, IG of Lucknow
  • Praveen Kumar, IG of Ayodhya
  • Ashutosh Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police, Kanpur

These promotions mark a notable career milestone for the officers, positioning them for greater responsibilities in maintaining law and order across their jurisdictions.

13 Officers Promoted from SP to DIG

In addition, 13 IPS officers have been promoted from the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP) to Deputy Inspector General (DIG). These officers, currently serving in various districts including Lucknow, will now take on more strategic and supervisory roles within the police force.

2008 Batch Officers Promoted to IG

The government has also promoted several mid-career officers to the rank of Inspector General (IG). Officers from the 2008 batch who have received this promotion include:

  • Kiran S
  • Anand Suresh Rao Kulkarni
  • N. Kolanchi
  • Amit Verma
  • Rajiv Malhotra
  • Dr. Akhilesh Kumar Nigam

These officers are expected to oversee larger zones and strengthen law enforcement frameworks across their areas.

2012 Batch Officers Promoted to DIG

Thirteen officers from the 2012 batch have been promoted to Deputy Inspector General (DIG). They include:

In addition to senior promotions, 28 IPS officers from the 2013 batch have been granted the Selection Grade, a recognition of consistent performance and potential for future senior leadership roles. Officers included in this promotion are:
