In a key administrative development, the Uttar Pradesh government has promoted senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer SB Shiradkar (IPS:1993:UP) to the prestigious rank of Director General of Police (DGP). The promotion was formalized on June 10, 2025, with the appointment becoming effective from June 11, 2025, or the date he formally assumes charge.
Shiradkar is currently serving as the Additional Director General (ADG) of Lucknow Zone. A highly experienced officer with over three decades of service, he is known for his professional acumen and leadership across various police roles in the state.
Takes Over from Retired DGP Ashish Gupta
The promotion comes following the voluntary retirement of Ashish Gupta (IPS:1989:UP), who was serving as the Director General, Rules and Manual. Gupta retired on June 10, creating a vacancy at the DGP level, which has now been filled by Shiradkar’s elevation.
The decision is part of routine high-level cadre management within the Uttar Pradesh police force, ensuring a smooth transition and continuity in leadership.
DST Secretary Prof. Abhay Karandikar on Leave
In another senior-level bureaucratic update, Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Secretary of the Department of Science & Technology (DST), has gone on eight-day leave from June 11 to June 18, 2025.
During his absence, the charge of DST Secretary has been temporarily handed over to Dr. Rajesh S Gokhale, who currently serves as the Secretary of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT).
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued an official order on June 10, confirming the competent authority’s approval for the temporary assignment of additional responsibilities to Dr. Gokhale.
The interim arrangement ensures that the DST continues to function seamlessly during Karandikar’s absence, especially given its crucial role in formulating science and innovation policies in the country.
