Speaking at the concluding ceremony of the two-day state-level wrestling championship held at the Gorakhnath Temple on the occasion of Nag Panchami, the Chief Minister lauded the state’s achievements in building sports infrastructure and creating a supportive environment for athletes.

Over 500 Medalists Appointed to Government Jobs

Mr. Adityanath revealed that more than 500 athletes, who brought glory to India and Uttar Pradesh in major international sporting events such as the Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and World Championships, have been appointed to government positions. “UP is at the forefront in recognising the efforts of our sportspersons,” he said, adding that these appointments reflect the state’s priority in rewarding excellence with both cash incentives and employment.

Boost to Sports Infrastructure Across the State

The Chief Minister noted that in the past eight years, sports infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh has grown significantly, with new playgrounds in villages, mini-stadiums at block levels, and stadiums in district headquarters being developed. These efforts have enabled greater participation at the grassroots level and provided platforms for youth to train and compete.

Encouraging Fitness and Traditional Sports

Drawing from India’s cultural heritage, Mr. Adityanath emphasized the importance of physical fitness, stating that sports should be part of everyone’s daily routine. “When a young person embraces sports as a career, they not only enhance their own lives but also make their families, society, and the nation proud,” he said.

He also praised the Uttar Pradesh Police athletes for their contribution to India’s third-place finish at the Police World Championship, demonstrating the discipline and dedication of athletes in state service.

Gorakhnath Temple: A Centuries-Old Sporting Tradition

The Chief Minister highlighted the long-standing tradition of wrestling tournaments at the Gorakhnath Temple during Nag Panchami, calling it a historic and cultural platform that has evolved into a major arena for young wrestlers across the state.

Mr. Adityanath attended the final wrestling bouts of the championship and distributed prizes to the winners and runners-up in three weight categories, reiterating the state’s commitment to support and celebrate its athletes.
