Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government on Monday announced a major reshuffle in the police department, transferring 28 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers across the state. The move is aimed at strengthening law-and-order management, improving administrative efficiency, and reinforcing training and modernisation initiatives.
Top Brass Get New Roles: Promotions and Strategic Assignments
Senior IPS officer Rajiv Sabharwal, currently ADG at the BR Ambedkar Police Academy in Moradabad, has been promoted and appointed as the Director General (DG) of Training and Modernization. He will also retain additional charge of the Police Academy.
Similarly, A. Satish Ganesh, ADG at Moradabad’s Police Training School (PTS), has been assigned as ADG of the Traffic and Road Safety Directorate, replacing K. Satyanarayan, who has now been posted to the Anti-Corruption Organization. Notably, Satyanarayan has already applied for voluntary retirement.
Shuffling Within the Ranks: IGs and DIGs Repositioned
Several Inspector Generals (IGs) and Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) have also been reassigned-
- IG Rajesh D. Modak Rao, CID, has been shifted to the Government Railway Police (GRP).
- IG Traffic Subhash Chandra Dubey is now posted to the Women and Child Protection Organization.
- DIG Anees Ahmad Ansari, Police Headquarters, has been moved to the PAC Headquarters.
- DIG Devranjan Verma, previously in Rules and Grants, is now DIG Establishment.
SP-Level Movements: Intelligence, Crime, and Logistics Departments Reorganized
Key transfers at the Superintendent of Police (SP) level include–
- Dr. Meenakshi Katyayan, SP LIU, becomes the commander of the 34th Battalion PAC, Varanasi (based in Kanpur Nagar).
- Sarvanand Singh Yadav, previously commander of the 12th Battalion PAC in Fatehpur, is now SP at SSF Headquarters.
- Pankaj Kumar Pandey has been transferred from the 34th Battalion Varanasi to SP at Intelligence Headquarters.
- Dr. Mahendra Pal Singh, SP Crime, is now the commander of the 5th Battalion SSF in Saharanpur.
- Shubham Patel has moved from Intelligence Headquarters to the Technical Service Branch.
- Manoj Kumar Awasthi, SP Law and Order, becomes the new commander of the 12th Battalion PAC in Fatehpur.
ASP-Level Changes: Cybercrime, ATS, and Recruitment Branches See New Faces
At the Additional SP (ASP) level, several critical shifts have occurred-
- Rohan Jha, from DGP Headquarters, has been posted to the Cyber Crime Headquarters.
- Ashok Kumar, SP LIU in Gorakhpur, will now serve in the UP Power Corporation.
- Chandrakant Meena, previously on the waiting list, has been posted as SP LIU, Kanpur Nagar.
- Niharika Sharma, in-charge of the 26th Battalion PAC in Gorakhpur, has been confirmed as its commander.
Additional notable changes–
- Sanjeev Kumar Bajpai (Bijnor) becomes commander of the 43rd Battalion PAC in Etah.
- Anil Kumar I, previously in-charge principal at PTS Gorakhpur, is now appointed as principal.
- Brijesh Kumar Gautam, Anti-Narcotics Task Force, becomes SP Crime at Police Headquarters.
- Omprakash Singh I (Basti) is now SP Logistics.
- Omprakash Singh II (Mirzapur) is the new SP Law and Order at Police HQ.
Strategic Law Enforcement Roles Filled Across State
Further reshuffles include–
- Azizul Haque (ASP, Central Reserve Sitapur) as SP at Police Headquarters.
- Vinay Kumar Singh (Bijnor) as SP of ATS Spot Team.
- Ashok Kumar, Deputy Commander of the 20th Battalion PAC in Azamgarh, is now SP in the Police Recruitment and Promotion Board.
- Sanjay Rai (Pratapgarh) has been posted as SP LIU, Ayodhya.
- Anand Kumar II, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Ghaziabad Commissionerate), becomes SP LIU, Bareilly.
- Sanjay Kumar II has been transferred to Gorakhpur as SP.

This major reshuffle reflects the Yogi Adityanath-led state government’s efforts to streamline administration, ensure effective law enforcement, and bring fresh leadership to critical departments, especially in intelligence, traffic management, women’s safety, cybercrime, and logistics.
