UP Government to Present ₹25,400 Crore Urban Development-Focused Budget for FY 2026-27 on February 11

Budget Priorities Include Smart City Projects, Air Quality Improvement, Kumbh Mela Infrastructure, Municipal Election Preparations, and Welfare Initiatives for Urban Areas

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government is set to present its budget for the financial year 2026-27 on February 11. Following the Union Budget announcement, the state finance department has received proposals from all departments, and preparations are now in the final stages. The Urban Development Department has prepared a detailed plan allocating ₹25,400 crore to enhance urban infrastructure and public services across the state.

Major Urban Development Allocations

The Urban Development Department’s plan focuses on providing comprehensive urban facilities:

  • ₹500 crore for the Smart City Mission to improve urban amenities
  • ₹500 crore for district headquarters municipalities to develop model smart towns
  • ₹50 crore to improve air quality and address pollution in urban centers

Preparations for Religious Events and Kumbh Mela

Special provisions have been made to manage large-scale events:

  • ₹200 crore allocated for facilities and infrastructure for the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj
  • ₹70 crore for other religious fairs and events organized by municipal authorities

These allocations will ensure smooth management and adequate facilities for visitors and residents alike.

Municipal Election Preparations

With urban local body elections scheduled in 2027, the budget includes ₹250 crore to support early preparations. This ensures municipalities are fully equipped and ready for the upcoming electoral process.

Expansion of Public Welfare Services

To address urban welfare and community services, the budget includes:

  • ₹50 crore for the ABC Dog Care Centers to provide shelter and care for stray animals in urban areas
  • Expansion of such centers beyond major municipal corporations to cover all urban areas based on need

The Uttar Pradesh budget for FY 2026-27 emphasizes a combination of infrastructure development, public welfare, environmental management, and administrative readiness for elections.
