Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has approved 95 new irrigation and canal improvement projects aimed at enhancing water management, irrigation capacity, and flood control in the state. The projects, costing ₹39,453.39 lakh, are expected to restore irrigation capacity in 36,000 hectares, directly benefiting around nine lakh farmers and rural residents, while also protecting 273 hectares of government land.
CM Reviews Irrigation and Water Resources Department
The Chief Minister chaired a detailed review meeting of the Irrigation and Water Resources Department at his official residence on Wednesday. He directed officials to strengthen canal infrastructure and ensure timely completion of all approved works. CM Yogi emphasized strict adherence to quality standards, warning that action would be taken against any lapses in implementation.
He also instructed the department to survey unused land and prepare a detailed plan to utilize it effectively. The review included discussions on flood management measures and preparation for the upcoming year, with a focus on starting initiatives from January.

Focus on Farmer Welfare and Effective Planning
The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of preparing the action plan with guidance from local representatives to ensure that no farmer suffers due to lack of irrigation. He stressed that the state government’s goal is to secure crop yield and enhance agricultural productivity across Uttar Pradesh.
Scope of the Approved Projects
Officials detailed that the new projects will include:
- Construction of canals, head regulators, cross regulators, siphons, falls, and other permanent structures to enhance canal connectivity.
- Repair and renovation of damaged canals and sluices.
- Construction and repair of bridges and culverts on canal routes.
- Building of khadanja along canal tracks.
- Renovation of inspection offices, canal buildings, and water wheels (panchakkis).
- Installation of boundary walls for departmental land protection.
The projects will especially benefit farmers in Purvanchal, Terai, Bundelkhand, and Western Uttar Pradesh, improving irrigation efficiency and rural infrastructure.
