New Delhi: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the reserve list for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2024, recommending 114 additional candidates for appointment to various civil services, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Indian Foreign Service (IFS).

Breakdown of Recommended Candidates

According to the official notification, the Commission has recommended candidates from multiple categories as per the rules governing the CSE 2024.

The distribution is as follows –

  • General Category: 94 candidates
  • Other Backward Classes (OBC): 13 candidates
  • Economically Weaker Sections (EWS): 5 candidates
  • Scheduled Caste (SC): 1 candidate
  • Scheduled Tribe (ST): 1 candidate

This latest recommendation follows a request from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) to fill the remaining vacancies under the Civil Services Examination 2024 cycle.

Reserve List Maintained Under Rule 20(4) and 20(5)

The reserve list has been prepared in accordance with Rule 20(4) and Rule 20(5) of the Civil Services Examination Rules, 2024. These provisions allow the Commission to maintain a consolidated reserve list of candidates in order of merit below the last recommended candidate, to be utilized in case of unfilled vacancies or withdrawal of selected candidates.

CSE – 2024 Final Result Summary

Earlier, on April 22, 2025, UPSC declared the final result of the Civil Services Examination 2024, recommending 1,009 candidates for appointment against 1,129 vacancies across various Central Services.

At that time, the candidature of 15 candidates had been kept provisional pending document verification. With the release of the reserve list, the total number of recommended candidates now rises to 1,123.

How to Check the Reserve List on UPSC Website

Candidates can access the UPSC CSE 2024 Reserve List on the official website – www.upsc.gov.in – by following these steps –

  • Visit the official UPSC website.
  • Click on the link titled “Recommended Candidates Based on Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2024 – Reserve List.”
  • The reserve list PDF will appear on the screen.
  • Search for your roll number in the document.
  • Download and save the file for future reference.

About the UPSC Civil Services Examination

Every year, lakhs of aspirants appear for the UPSC Civil Services Examination, widely regarded as India’s most competitive exam.

The examination is conducted in three stages –

  • Preliminary Examination
  • Main Examination
  • Personality Test (Interview)

The final merit list is prepared based on candidates’ performance in the Main Examination and Interview. Successful candidates are appointed to prestigious services, including –

  • Indian Administrative Service (IAS)
  • Indian Police Service (IPS)
  • Indian Foreign Service (IFS)
  • Indian Revenue Service (IRS)
  • Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS)
  • Indian Postal Service (IPoS)
  • Indian Trade Service (ITS), among others.
