Tie-Breaking Rule in UPSC Rankings
The UPSC follows a defined tie-breaking rule when two candidates secure the same total marks.
In such cases:
- The candidate with higher marks in compulsory papers (Essay and General Studies) and the personality test is ranked higher.
- If the tie persists, the candidate with higher marks in compulsory written papers gets preference.
- If marks remain identical, the older candidate is ranked higher.
