Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh is rapidly emerging as a key destination for innovation and entrepreneurship, as the state strengthens its startup ecosystem under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The government’s Start in UP initiative, combined with the Centre’s Startup India scheme, has created a favorable environment for young entrepreneurs, positioning the state as one of India’s growing startup hubs.
Over 3,000 Startups Recognized under ‘Start in UP’
According to the latest data, the number of startups recognized under the Start in UP initiative has crossed 3,000, reaching 3,011. This marks a growth of 106 startups in just one month from December 2025, when the count was 2,905. Experts say this surge reflects a growing trend among the youth to transition from job seekers to job creators.
Strong Presence in Startup India at the National Level
Uttar Pradesh is also making significant strides at the national level. Under the Central Government’s Startup India scheme, the number of recognized startups in the state has risen from 18,568 in December 2025 to 19,042, adding 474 new startups. This growth underscores Uttar Pradesh’s increasing prominence on the national startup map.
Startup-Friendly Policies Driving Growth
Analysts credit the state government’s startup-friendly policies for this rapid expansion. The Start in UP policy offers funding support, mentorship, incubation facilities, technical assistance, and simplified registration processes, making it easier for young entrepreneurs to start their ventures. Improved law and order and a focus on ease of doing business have also contributed to creating a favorable environment for startups.
Innovation Spreads Beyond Major Cities
IT expert Pradeep Yadav notes that startups are no longer concentrated in large cities like Lucknow, Noida, or Kanpur. Emerging startups from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities are generating new ideas and creating local employment opportunities, strengthening regional economies and fostering inclusive growth.
Looking Ahead
With government support and a growing entrepreneurial culture, Uttar Pradesh is steadily earning the reputation of a “Startup State.” Observers expect the pace of startup growth to accelerate in the coming years, further solidifying the state’s position as a hub for innovation and economic development.
