Indian Masterminds Stories

Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: The Uttar Pradesh government has announced significant promotions for its senior IAS officers, marking the first major administrative order of the new year. A total of 17 officers from the 1995 IAS batch have been elevated from Principal Secretary to Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), including key bureaucrats holding influential positions in the state administration.

Five Officers Elevated to Additional Chief Secretary

Among those promoted to the Additional Chief Secretary designation are –

  • Sanjay Prasad – Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary
  • Ashish Kumar Goyal – MD, UP Power Corporation
  • Amrit Abhijat – Principal Secretary, Tourism Department
  • Mukesh Kumar Meshram – Principal Secretary, Animal Husbandry Department
  • R. Ramesh Kumar – Principal Secretary

The officers have been promoted to the fixed pay scale of Rs. 2,25,000 (Level-17 in the Pay Matrix) as per the Seventh Pay Commission. These promotions come with additional responsibilities and are effective from the date of assuming charge.

Promotions for Officers on Central Deputation

Three senior IAS officers of the 1995 batch, currently on deputation to the Government of India, have also been granted proforma promotions to Level-17 in the Pay Matrix. These officers include:

  • Bhuvnesh Kumar
  • Mrityunjay Kumar Narayan
  • Santosh Kumar Yadav

These officers’ promotions reflect recognition of their experience and contribution to the state as well as central government assignments.

Bureaucracy Receives New Postings

The promotions coincide with a series of administrative reshuffles. Earlier, on January 1, 2026, the state government had issued new postings for 21 senior IAS officers, with several officers elevated from Special Secretary to Secretary level. This restructuring included changes in responsibilities across key departments, reinforcing the state’s governance framework.

Officials noted that these moves aim to strengthen administrative efficiency and align senior officers with critical developmental portfolios in the state.

Impact and Significance

The first week of 2026 has thus begun with significant morale-boosting news for Uttar Pradesh’s IAS cadre. Elevating officers to Additional Chief Secretary is not only a recognition of their service but also a strategic step to ensure experienced leadership at the helm of vital state departments.
