Lucknow: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh has been recognized at the national level for its outstanding performance in implementing the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY). The state received accolades for timely claim settlements, enhanced expenditure on serious illness treatment, and efficient grievance redressal, setting national benchmarks in healthcare delivery.
Record Payments and Increased Healthcare Reach
SACHIS CEO Archana Verma highlighted that PM-JAY, the world’s largest health insurance scheme, provides cashless treatment of up to ₹5 lakh per family per year to eligible beneficiaries. She said, “From July 2025 till date, approximately ₹2,200 crore has been disbursed to empanelled hospitals across the state, compared to around ₹1,300 crore during the entire financial year 2024–25. This nearly twofold increase in claim payments reflects improved implementation and broader outreach of the scheme among the needy.”
To ensure uninterrupted treatment, the state government has provided an additional ₹1,500 crore through a supplementary budget, with strict directions to settle approved claims within 30 days.
Enhanced Transparency Through Technology and Workforce
The state has strengthened the SACHIS software system and expanded its core team, significantly reducing the time for claim verification and approval. These improvements have benefited both patients and healthcare providers, ensuring faster and more transparent healthcare delivery.
Focus on Serious and Complex Illnesses
Uttar Pradesh has also increased spending on specialized treatments such as cardiology, neurosurgery, oncology, urology, and plastic surgery. In 2024–25, ₹894.1 crore was spent on these services. In the ongoing 2025–26 financial year, payments have already reached ₹1,370.2 crore, making advanced and high-cost treatments more accessible to poor and middle-class families.
SACHIS ACEO Pooja Yadav noted a significant rise in oncology payments, stating, “In 2025–26, ₹449.62 crore has been disbursed for cancer treatment so far, compared to ₹285.43 crore during the same period last year. This demonstrates the Chief Minister’s commitment to affordable treatment for life-threatening diseases.”
Excellence in Grievance Redressal
Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a national model in grievance redressal under Ayushman Bharat. From January 2025 to date, 41,582 complaints have been received on the online portal, with 41,458 resolved efficiently. The remaining cases are under active consideration and are expected to be addressed within the stipulated timeframe.
In recognition of this performance, the National Health Authority felicitated SACHIS, Uttar Pradesh, at the National Grievance Workshop held from December 18 to 25. The workshop included participants from 37 states and union territories, with Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Sikkim, and Chandigarh receiving special recognition for their exemplary efforts.
Uttar Pradesh Sets National Benchmarks
The state has set national benchmarks in payments, treatment, and grievance redressal under Ayushman Bharat. The nearly doubling of claim payments within a year, timely settlement within 30 days, and record spending on critical illnesses highlight Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to accessible, quality, and transparent healthcare for its residents.
