Dehradun: In a significant boost to Uttarakhand’s infrastructure, the central government has approved two major projects aimed at improving road connectivity and reducing traffic congestion in the state.
These projects, championed under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, are expected to enhance travel efficiency, support tourism, and accelerate regional development.
Elevated Road from Haldwani to Haridwar
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has approved the construction of an elevated road connecting Haldwani to Haridwar, two key cities in the Kumaon region. The elevated road is expected to reduce travel time between the two cities to two to two and a half hours, saving both time and fuel for commuters.
Improved Connectivity for Tourists and Pilgrims
According to MP Ajay Bhatt, the project will provide better transportation facilities to tourists visiting the state, including easier access to major pilgrimage sites. “This elevated road will not only make travel easier for the people of Kumaon but also strengthen tourism and commercial activities in the region,” Bhatt said.
Lalkuan Bypass to Reduce Traffic Congestion
In addition to the elevated road, the construction of a bypass in Lalkuan has also received departmental approval. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) preparation is underway, and tenders for the project have been issued. The bypass will divert heavy vehicles away from the town, significantly reducing congestion in Lalkuan and improving overall traffic flow.
Regional Development and Economic Boost
MP Bhatt emphasized that the completion of both projects will provide a major boost to religious, tourism, and commercial sectors in Kumaon. The infrastructure improvements are expected to accelerate regional development, making Uttarakhand more accessible and improving the quality of life for residents.
