Vadodara: In a major boost to urban infrastructure and traffic management, the Vadodara Urban Development Authority (VUDA) and Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) have completed the first phase of the ambitious 75-meter wide Ring Road project. The mega infrastructure initiative is expected to significantly reshape the city’s transport network and economic landscape.

Massive ₹1,500 Crore Infrastructure Project

The 66-kilometre-long Ring Road project, being developed in five phases, carries an estimated cost of ₹1,500 crore.

Key highlights include:

  • Total length: 66 km (5 phases)
  • First phase completed: 27.5 km
  • Cost of Phase 1: ₹316 crore
  • Width: 75 meters

The project is being executed jointly by VUDA and VMC, with technical guidance from experts of CEPT University.

Improved Connectivity Across Highways and Expressways

Once fully completed, the Ring Road will provide seamless connectivity across major transport routes, including:

  • National Highway-48
  • Delhi–Mumbai Expressway
  • Multiple state highways

Officials say the corridor will serve as a critical link between the eastern and western parts of Vadodara, improving traffic flow and reducing congestion within the city.

Designed for Modern Urban Mobility

The project includes several advanced infrastructure features such as:

  • High-tech drainage systems
  • Dedicated service roads
  • Modern street lighting infrastructure

These upgrades aim to ensure long-term durability, safety, and efficiency in urban transport.

Major Relief from Traffic Congestion

According to Vadodara Municipal Commissioner Arun Mahesh Babu, the Ring Road will significantly reduce traffic pressure inside the city.

Key benefits include:

  • Heavy vehicles diverted outside city limits
  • Reduced traffic jams within urban areas
  • Lower fuel consumption and travel time
  • Improved inter-regional connectivity between North and South Gujarat

Positive Response from Citizens

Local residents have welcomed the project, calling it a major convenience for daily commuters.

A resident, Yogesh Joshi, said the road will help save both time and fuel costs, while senior citizen Shakuntalaben Joshi highlighted its safety and ease of travel for elderly commuters.

Phase 2 Construction to Begin Soon

The first phase of the project covers key areas including Kapoorai. Authorities are now preparing to launch Phase 2 construction work shortly.

Experts believe that once fully completed, the Ring Road will position Vadodara as a major logistics and transport hub in western India, boosting trade and economic activity in the region.
