Vande Mataram: 150 Years of Patriotism

The Government of India has declared a year-long celebration from November 7, 2025, to November 7, 2026, to mark the 150th anniversary of ‘Vande Mataram’.

Written in 1876 by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay and later included in his 1882 novel ‘Anandamath’, the song became a symbol of Indian nationalism during the freedom movement. Addressing the motherland as a goddess, the poem is often translated as “Hail to the Motherland” and remains one of India’s most cherished patriotic songs.
