New Delhi: India’s defence sector is rapidly adopting advanced technologies, and AI swarm drones are emerging as a key force multiplier on the modern battlefield. New Delhi-based Vektas Technologies successfully demonstrated its indigenous AI-enabled swarm drone system to the Indian Army.

The demonstration highlights India’s growing focus on autonomous warfare and indigenous defence innovation under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Details of Indigenous AI Swarm Drones of Vektas Technologies

Vektas Technologies, a defence technology startup based in New Delhi, recently conducted a demonstration of its AI-enabled swarm drone system for the Indian Army.

Unlike traditional drones that operate individually, swarm drones function as a network of multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that coordinate their actions through artificial intelligence. This allows them to operate collectively like a single combat unit.

During the demonstration, the drones showcased coordinated flight operations where multiple UAVs shared mission data and adjusted their actions based on changing battlefield conditions. Such systems allow a single operator to control and supervise many drones simultaneously, significantly reducing the workload on human operators.

How AI Swarm Drones Work

AI swarm drone technology is designed to enable autonomous cooperation between multiple drones in real time.

Key features of the system include:

  • Artificial Intelligence mission management that allows drones to make quick decisions after launch.
  • Real-time data sharing within the swarm to distribute tasks among drones.
  • Dynamic target allocation, where drones automatically decide which targets to track or engage.
  • Autonomous navigation and coordination with minimal human intervention.

These capabilities allow the swarm to adapt quickly to battlefield conditions and maintain effectiveness even if some drones are lost during operations.

Key Military Roles of Swarm Drones

The AI swarm drone system demonstrated by Vektas Technologies can support a wide range of military missions.

1. Surveillance and Reconnaissance

Swarm drones can monitor large areas simultaneously, making them ideal for border surveillance and battlefield intelligence gathering.

2. Target Detection and Acquisition

By working together, drones can locate enemy assets faster and transmit targeting data to ground forces.

3. Precision Strike Operations

Some drones in the swarm can be equipped with payloads for precision strikes on high-value targets.

4. Saturation Attacks

A large swarm of low-cost drones can overwhelm enemy air defence systems by attacking from multiple directions at once.

Why the Indian Army Is Interested in Indigenous AI Swarm Drones

In recent years, the Indian Army has shown increasing interest in swarm drone technologies as part of its modernization strategy.

Modern conflicts around the world have demonstrated that small drones and loitering munitions can significantly influence battlefield outcomes. As a result, militaries are investing heavily in unmanned and autonomous systems.

The Indian Army sees swarm drones as a force multiplier that can support infantry, artillery, and armoured units by providing faster intelligence and rapid strike capabilities.
