New Delhi: Western Coalfields Ltd (WCL), Nagpur, has posted strong performance figures for the financial year 2025‑26, according to an official company release.
During the year, WCL generated 63.03 million tonnes of coal, surpassing previous outputs, and achieved 60 million tonnes in coal despatch, marking a significant operational milestone. The company also executed 354.33 million cubic metres of Over Burden Removal (OBR) across its mining areas.
Key Clearances Boost Expansion Plans
In FY 2025‑26, WCL obtained incremental environmental clearance for 5.375 million tonnes, enabling capacity enhancement. Additionally, it secured Stage‑II forest clearance for 207.76 hectares of forest land across seven projects, strengthening future expansion and mine development prospects.
Top Performing Operational Areas
Among WCL’s mining divisions, the Wani Area led coal production with a contribution of 13.31 million tonnes. It was followed by the:
- Nagpur Area – 11.65 million tonnes
- Umrer Area – 10.57 million tonnes
These areas collectively supported the company’s robust production performance.
Progress in Strategic Initiatives
WCL also made strides in key strategic priorities, including:
- Coal Gasification Projects, aimed at cleaner and value‑added utilization of coal resources
- First Mile Connectivity Projects, improving logistics efficiency
- Net‑Zero Ambitions, with initiatives underway to reduce carbon footprint and work toward sustainable operations
