The Central Government on appointed Mr. Ajay Seth (1987-batch Karnataka cadre IAS officer) as the Finance Secretary. The position had been vacant since Mr. Tuhin Kanta Pandey (1987-batch Odisha cadre IAS officer) assumed charge as the Chairman of SEBI.
Mr. Seth, who is currently serving as the Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, also holds additional charge as the Secretary, Department of Revenue, succeeding Mr. T.K. Pandey. As per convention, the senior-most Secretary in the Ministry of Finance is designated as the Union Finance Secretary.
