Kochi: G Priyanka, IAS, officially took charge as the new District Collector of Ernakulam on Thursday, succeeding NSK Umesh, who has been transferred to serve as the Director of General Education. Priyanka’s appointment marks a significant milestone as she becomes the third woman to hold this prestigious post in Ernakulam district.
A Distinguished Career Path
A 2017 batch IAS officer, G Priyanka has built a notable career in the Indian Administrative Service. Prior to her current appointment, she served as the Collector of Palakkad district. Her administrative experience also includes key roles such as Kozhikode Sub-Collector, Director of the Social Justice Department, and Director of the Women and Child Development Department.
Educational Background and Professional Expertise
Priyanka holds an engineering degree and further enhanced her administrative acumen with postgraduate studies in Public Management and Public Administration. Her educational qualifications combined with her varied administrative experience have equipped her to handle the multifaceted challenges of district administration.
Transition of Office and Welcome Ceremony
Upon arriving at the Ernakulam Collectorate, Priyanka was warmly received by senior officials led by Assistant Collector Parvathy Gopakumar and Additional District Magistrate Vinod Raj. She formally took over the charge from NSK Umesh in a ceremony attended by notable dignitaries including Antony John MLA, District Panchayat President Manoj Moothedan, Deputy Collectors, and heads of various district departments.

G Priyanka follows in the footsteps of two distinguished women collectors in Ernakulam — Dr. M Beena and Dr. Renu Raj — reinforcing the increasing representation of women in high-ranking administrative roles within the district.
