Thiruvananthapuram: In a significant move, the Kerala Police have assigned a senior woman officer to lead the investigation into the second rape allegation against MLA Rahul Mamkootathil. The probe will be headed by Assistant Inspector General (AIG) G. Poonguzhali, following a complaint filed by a 23-year-old woman.
Allegations by Bengaluru Resident
The complainant, a resident of Bengaluru, has accused the MLA of raping her at a homestay during a recent visit to Kerala. She has also alleged that she was physically assaulted. The woman initially shared her grievance via email with the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), which subsequently forwarded the matter to the State Police Chief for further action.
Formal Complaint and Case Registration
The police requested the woman to lodge an official complaint using the same email she had initially contacted the KPCC with. Upon her agreement, authorities registered a case against Rahul Mamkootathil. Her formal statement is expected to be recorded shortly as the investigation moves forward.
