Lakhnow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the fast-tracked development of the ‘Naval Bravery Museum’ in the state capital, Lucknow, which is set to become a living tribute to the valor of the Indian Navy and the nation’s maritime heritage. The museum will be designed as a unique symbol of India’s naval power, particularly in the Indian Ocean region, and will showcase the country’s rich history of maritime strength and defense technology.
During a review meeting of the state’s Culture Department on Thursday, CM Adityanath reviewed the museum’s conceptual presentation and issued clear directives to begin construction without delay. “The sea has always been a focal point of India’s civilization, and the Indian Navy is the modern embodiment of that glorious tradition,” said the Chief Minister. He emphasized that the museum will not only honor the bravery of the Indian Navy but also spread awareness about India’s maritime legacy to the masses.
Museum to Feature Interactive and Immersive Naval Experience
The proposed museum will take the form of a ship, with architectural features such as railings, portholes, and nautical symbols. The design will incorporate energy-efficient technology, with an emphasis on natural light, ventilation, and green building practices. The museum will include various attractions such as an interpretation center, open-air memorial, thematic walkways, exhibition galleries, and a light-and-sound arena.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath instructed the museum’s planners to ensure that it becomes an “experience hub” rather than just a passive display of artifacts. He called for the use of digital, interactive, and immersive technologies to allow visitors to experience naval campaigns, war operations, and technological advancements firsthand. The museum will also provide information on the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, a figure who holds a special place in India’s maritime history.
Major Attractions to Include INS Gomati and TU-142 Aircraft
The museum project will be developed in two primary segments. The first, the INS Gomati Shaurya Smarak, will feature the preserved INS Gomati (F-21), a domestic missile frigate that served for 34 years in the Indian Navy. This ship participated in major operations like Operation Cactus and Operation Parakram. The second segment will be the Naval Shaurya Vatika, which will house the TU-142 aircraft, which served in maritime surveillance and disaster relief missions for nearly three decades. Additionally, the Sea King SK-42B helicopter will be showcased in the museum.
CM Adityanath noted that the Naval Shaurya Vatika will serve as a living experience for youth, connecting them with modern naval operations and technology. “This will be a space where the young generation can directly engage with the advancements in naval defense and technology,” he added.
Interactive Exhibitions and Digital Experiences
The museum will feature a range of interactive exhibits designed to engage visitors with India’s naval history and achievements. Notable features will include:
- 7D Theater for an immersive experience
- Aircraft Carrier Landing Simulator
- Warship Simulator
- Submerged Dwarka Model
- Marine Life Aquarium
- Dress Like Your Heroes — a participatory activity
Additionally, galleries will showcase India’s naval bravery awards, historical campaigns, and indigenous defense innovations.
Boosting Maritime Awareness and Tourism in Uttar Pradesh
This monumental project is expected to revive the consciousness of India’s maritime glory, especially in Uttar Pradesh, a landlocked state. CM Yogi Adityanath pointed out that the museum will not only commemorate the Indian Navy’s heroism but also reflect India’s rich maritime heritage, which has been a key part of the nation’s trade and cultural exchanges in the Indian Ocean.
“This museum will serve as a symbol of India’s maritime soul and will position Uttar Pradesh prominently on the national tourism map,” CM Adityanath said, further adding that it will offer a new, prestigious identity to the state.
The Maritime Heritage Society, Uttar Pradesh Projects Corporation, and Navy experts will oversee the project’s execution, which is expected to draw national and international visitors alike, adding significant value to Uttar Pradesh’s tourism sector.
