Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, on Friday said that Lucknow is rapidly transforming into a modern urban centre that reflects the spirit of “New India”. He made the remarks while inaugurating the second phase of the Green Corridor project along with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister said the city now truly represents the famous phrase “Muskuraiye Aap Lucknow Mein Hain”. He emphasised that a state capital should ensure convenience for its residents through better connectivity and efficient infrastructure so that people can easily reach their destinations.
Vision for Better Connectivity in the Capital
Yogi Adityanath said the idea of improving traffic connectivity in Lucknow was supported by Rajnath Singh, whose vision helped shape the project. The initiative was later implemented by the Lucknow Development Authority.
According to the Chief Minister, the Green Corridor will make the city’s traffic movement smoother, more organised and modern, offering improved commuting facilities for residents. He added that the project was completed without allocating a separate budget from the state government. Instead, the LDA freed government land from encroachments and utilised it efficiently for development.
28-Km Corridor to Reduce Travel Time
The Green Corridor project will eventually stretch around 28 kilometres and connect several key areas of the city. Two phases of the project have already been completed and inaugurated—from IIM Road to Pakka Pul and from Pakka Pul (Daliganj) to Samatamulak Chauraha.
The foundation stone has also been laid for the third and fourth phases, which will link Samatamulak Chauraha to Shaheed Path and further connect Shaheed Path with Kisan Path.
Yogi Adityanath said the corridor will significantly reduce travel time. Routes that earlier took 45 minutes to an hour can now be covered in just 10 to 15 minutes.
He also recalled that during the government led by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Rajnath Singh had played an important role in giving Lucknow the Shaheed Path project. Later, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and with support from Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Kisan Path was developed as the outer ring road of the capital.
Infrastructure, Defence and Cultural Development
The chief minister said Lucknow is progressing not only in infrastructure but also in technology and defence production. He highlighted that the BrahMos missile project has been established in the city with the efforts of Rajnath Singh.
The event was organised at Jhulelal Vatika, which was earlier encroached upon but has now been redeveloped for public use. From March 19, cultural programmes under the Jhulelal Mahotsav will be organised here on the occasion of Nav Samvatsar.
During the programme, Rajnath Singh and Yogi Adityanath also honoured the workers involved in the construction of the corridor by showering flowers on them and taking a group photograph.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that Uttar Pradesh will continue to play a key role in India’s development journey and emerge as a major growth engine for the country.
