Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath met Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran on Monday to discuss the expansion of Tata Group projects and new investment proposals in the state. The meeting focused on collaboration across multiple sectors, including artificial intelligence (AI), information technology, electronics, defense manufacturing, energy, renewable energy, electric vehicles (EVs), tourism, skill development, and the digital economy.
AI City Proposal to Make UP a Global Hub
During the meeting, the Tata Sons Chairman proposed the development of an AI City in Lucknow, which aims to position Uttar Pradesh as a global hub for artificial intelligence. The project is expected to strengthen the startup ecosystem in the state and generate thousands of jobs in emerging technologies.
Additionally, the progress of the Centre of Excellence in Gorakhpur, being established with an investment of ₹48 crore, was discussed. This centre is set to provide advanced technical training and opportunities for the youth of eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Skill Development and Industry-Ready Workforce
Tata Group informed that, through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIT Kanpur, young professionals will be trained in fields such as AI, cybersecurity, data science, 3D printing, drones, and space technology. This initiative is expected to significantly strengthen skill development and create an industry-ready workforce in the state.
Expansion of Global Capability Centers and TCS Units
Discussions also covered the establishment of Global Capability Centers (GCCs) in Uttar Pradesh, along with the expansion of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) units in Lucknow, Noida, and Varanasi. The workforce in the Lucknow and Noida TCS units is proposed to increase from 16,000 to 30,000 employees, enhancing the state’s digital talent pool.
Investment in Electronics and EV Manufacturing
Recognizing Uttar Pradesh’s growing capabilities in electronics manufacturing, Tata Group expressed its interest in expanding investments in mobile devices, electronic components, and other high-tech products. Reference was made to an MoU signed with Intel to strengthen the electronics ecosystem in the state.
In addition, collaboration on the production of electric buses, EVs, and other vehicle models was agreed upon, highlighting Uttar Pradesh’s growing role in clean and sustainable mobility solutions.
Defense Industry Collaboration
The meeting also covered the development of the Uttar Pradesh Defense Industrial Corridor. Tata Group proposed investments in drones, missiles, and defense vehicles at various nodes, including Jhansi, aligning with the state’s defense priorities. Expansion plans under the BIDA project in Jhansi were also discussed, with Tata Group committing full support to the state’s defense initiatives.
CM Yogi’s Remarks
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized that the Uttar Pradesh government is committed to providing investors with stable policies, a transparent system, and a business-friendly environment. He expressed confidence that the multi-sectoral collaboration with Tata Group will boost the state’s economy, create employment, and advance technological self-reliance.
The meeting marks a significant milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s journey towards becoming a trillion-dollar economy, setting the stage for enhanced investments, innovation, and economic growth in the state.
