Young IPS officers are bringing hope to citizens wherever they go with their enthusiasm. They are doing some nice work on ground and setting examples. Recently, in UP’s Bulandshahr district, a young IPS officer took an initiative and lend her helping hand to an elderly widow. Now her work is being recognized on social media and netizens are praising her wholeheartedly.
Noor Jahan, an elderly widow in her 70s was living in Bulandshahr without power. She is a resident of Khedi village in the district. The electricity connection to Noorjahan’s house was cut off. The old woman didn’t have money to pay the bills. Due to acute poverty, she could not afford the electricity connection. But, the local police department decided to gift it to her.
IPS Anukriti Sharma, a 2020-batch IPS officer and Additional SP of Bulandshahr, reached the woman’s home along with a police team and officials of the electricity department. She paid the electricity bill from her own pocket and the connection was restored.
Not only this, ASP Sharma also presented a fan to the old woman. As soon as light bub came on in the house, Noor Jahan immediately started smiling and blessing everyone, including ASP Sharma.
Ms Sharma posted a video and tweeted: “Swades moment of my life 🌸😊 Getting electricity connection to Noorjahan aunty’s house literally felt like bringing light into her life. The smile on her face was immensely satisfying. Thank you SHO Jitendra ji and the entire team for all the support.”

The video showed the elderly woman smiling ear to ear as the power line to her home was restored. And then a bulb lit up, but what shone brighter was the joy on Ms Noorjahan’s face!
She said, “We vowed to being light to her house. We coordinated with the power department and she was provided with a power connection. A fan and a light was installed in her house on behalf of the police department.”
ASP Aakriti Sharma told that three days ago, a meeting was held under Mission Shakti under the leadership of higher officials in village Khedi of Agauta police station area, in which Noorjahan had applied for electricity connection in her house. She is very poor woman and her financial condition is weak. Due to which she was not able to get electricity connection. Resolving the complaint of the woman, the Inspector in-charge of Agouta police station spoke to the employees of the Electricity Department. Also, funds were collected for electricity connection. Now on the Monday before Eid, electricity connection was made to his house and his house got lighted.
The emotional sight with beautiful smile on the face of Noorjahan, brought back memories of the timeless scene in the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer, 2004 mvie Swades, in which an old woman mumbles ‘bijli’ when a bulb comes alive and marks the entry of electric supply to a village.
