Chhattisgarh’s tableau, titled “The Land of Bastar – The Saga of Culture, Creation and Progress,” was a highlight of the Ekta Parade held in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The tableau showcased Bastar’s tribal life, rich traditions, and development journey, drawing praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who personally inspected all participating tableaux.
Tribal Art and Dance Bring Bastar to Life
At the forefront, the Gaur dance performed by Madia tribe artists in traditional attire symbolized Bastar’s collective spirit. Traditional trumpets resonated the folk joy of Bastar’s festivals, while the depiction of Nandi highlighted the region’s deep-rooted faith in Shiva worship. The tableau’s artistic execution captured the vibrancy and pride of Bastar culture.
Bastar’s Journey from Challenges to Progress
The central portion of the tableau highlighted Bastar’s journey from a region affected by Naxalism to one experiencing rapid development in education, health, infrastructure, and employment. Under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership and Chief Minister Mr. Vishnudev Sai’s guidance, Bastar now echoes progress rather than conflict. The final segment, featuring a woman carrying a basket, symbolized feminine strength, labor, and creativity, while dhokra decorations celebrated Bastar’s exceptional artisanal skills.
Empowering Youth and Women Through Development
The tableau told the story of Bastar’s transformation: villages now have electricity and internet access, roads connect previously remote areas, children attend schools, and women are becoming self-reliant through handicrafts and forest produce projects. Development initiatives have energized local youth, instilled hope, and created new opportunities for employment and self-employment, reflecting a harmonious blend of tradition and modern progress.
National Recognition Among State Tableaux
A high-level committee, led by the Home Secretary and experts, evaluated tableaux from states, union territories, and central organizations. Chhattisgarh’s tableau was chosen for its originality, cultural richness, and vibrant depiction of development. Alongside Chhattisgarh, tableaux from NSG, NDRF, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Manipur, Puducherry, and Uttarakhand were included in the final parade.
