The Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC), the state’s premier agency for industrial development, has announced plans to establish a new Agro Food Park in Chhapra Village, Rajkot. This initiative underscores the Government of Gujarat’s commitment to fostering industrial growth and strengthening the agro and food processing ecosystem.
Chhapra Agro Food Park to Strengthen Value Chain
The new Agro Food Park is designed to enhance the existing value chain of Gujarat’s agro and food processing sector, attracting significant private and public investment. With 20 agro production clusters in the state, including Banana, Potato, Finger Millet, and Okra, the park will further consolidate Gujarat’s position as a leading food processing hub.
Rajkot Emerges as Agro-Food Processing Hub
Rajkot has long been a key player in agriculture-based and food processing industries, hosting companies such as Mr. Bataji’s Wafers. The Chhapra park will complement this ecosystem and strengthen ancillary industries in the region. The proposed industrial estate covers 35 hectares and benefits from excellent connectivity, being just 1 km from State Highway 25, 20 km from the Rajkot Railway Station, and 55 km from Hirajar Airport. Proximity to the Dedicated Freight Corridor and Kandla Port (200 km) ensures efficient transport and international trade logistics.
State-of-the-Art Infrastructure to Support Industry Growth
The Agro Food Park will feature an Admin Complex, Common Facility Centre (CFC), warehouses, cold storage facilities, and modern street lighting. A dedicated laboratory will also be set up for research, testing, and innovation, ensuring high-quality standards and technological advancement in the food processing sector.
Investment and Employment Opportunities on the Rise
The Chhapra (Rajkot) and Mudetha (Banaskantha) projects are projected to attract an investment of Rs 500 Crore collectively. This development is expected to create approximately 30,000 direct and indirect jobs, boosting local livelihoods and enhancing economic opportunities in Gujarat.
Government Schemes to Promote Sustainable Agro-Food Processing
The Gujarat government has launched multiple schemes to promote investment in food processing, support agro-based industries, and enhance income for communities dependent on agriculture and allied sectors. These initiatives aim to create a sustainable and inclusive industrial ecosystem across the state.
Upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference to Catalyze Investments
The upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference in Rajkot on 8th and 9th January will provide a dynamic platform for stakeholders across the agro-food sector. The event is expected to further strengthen collaboration, attract investments, and accelerate the growth of food processing industries in the Kutch and Rajkot districts.
