Gujarat, home to global landmarks such as the Narendra Modi Stadium and the Statue of Unity, is preparing to add another milestone to its development journey as it gears up to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games. In alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for technologically empowered governance, the Gujarat Police has completed the second phase of the ambitious Project Vishwas — a statewide modern surveillance and security enhancement initiative.
Project Vishwas: A Technological Leap for Public Safety
Project Vishwas (Video Integration and Statewide Advanced Security) is designed to strengthen surveillance, crime detection, and responsive policing across the state. The Gujarat Police has already installed more than 12,500 CCTV cameras across 54 cities under the second phase of the project.
This transformative effort also includes surveillance coverage at 79 interstate checkpoints, creating a secure framework for smoother monitoring of vehicular movement and cross-border activities.
The first phase saw the installation of 7,000 CCTV units along with body-worn cameras and district-level command centers, significantly advancing investigation capabilities and crime control mechanisms across districts.
City-Level Preparedness and Smart Integration
Ahmedabad, although not covered by Project Vishwas cameras yet, has its own advanced command and control center built using Smart City and other project cameras. This facility, inaugurated by Mr. Amit Shah, supports real-time monitoring and urban governance workflows.
Inside the Mega Surveillance Network
Phase 1 included:
- 7000 CCTV cameras
- 10,000 body-worn cameras
- 34 Netram district command centers
- 1 Trinetra state monitoring unit
Phase 2 includes:
- 54 cities brought under the network
- 79 interstate check posts
- 12,500 new CCTV cameras
- 3 upgraded command and control centers
Trinetra: The Heart of Gujarat’s Security Intelligence
A state-level mega control room named Trinetra has been established in Gandhinagar. All district-level control rooms are seamlessly integrated with this nerve centre. The system enables monitoring of any part of the state from a single point, creating a cohesive security grid.
The project is being overseen by 1996-batch IPS officer Mr. Narasimha Kumar, who has been managing the initiative since his posting at the DGP Headquarters. Working alongside the Vadodara Police Commissioner, he is steering one of Gujarat Police’s most ambitious modernization drives.
Nationwide Recognition and Public Appreciation
The impactful role of these surveillance systems in solving crimes and assisting real-time policing tasks has garnered national attention. The significance of Project Vishwas has also been highlighted on Prime Minister Modi’s MyGov (Meri Sarkar) portal, reflecting public interest and acknowledgment of Gujarat’s progressive steps in security modernization.
